News 2003 Apr/Jan27/04/2003Group 1 victory at last for Arlington RoadDanehill 4yr old Arlington Road finally chalked up a Group 1 success with a battling win in the All Aged Stakes over a mile at Randwick on Saturday. In so doing he defeated the higher profile galloper Dash For Cash, and added to his previous Group wins in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes and Group 3 Frank Packer Stakes. The compatible mating with Danehill rated fourth on our list of potential stallions when we originally analysed the dam Joie De Vivre in 1996. Third on our list was Kenmare, and the product of that mating was a filly exported to South Africa, Joie De Grise, winner of the Group 1 SAF South African Sprint in both 1998 and 1999. She was already a 2 yr old when we analysed Joie De Vivre. In the Group 1 Australian Oaks on the same card recommended mating Raspberry
Ripple, had no luck in running, and finished unplaced. 22/04/2003Foodbroker Founder earns possible run in the DanteAfter the record breaking exploits of Group 2 Falmouth Stakes winner Lover's Knot, it made sense for Tim Holland Martin to send her dam Nemea back to our top rated recommended stallion Groom Dancer. While the original mating was performed while Groom Dancer stood in France, the easier journey to Newmarket appears to have paid off in the form of younger brother Foodbroker Founder. Lover's Knot progressed significantly early in her 3 yr old career, and
yesterday's win for Foodbroker Founder under top weight at Kempton
may be the start of a similar progression under shrewd handler David Elsworth.
21/04/2003Hasna wins Group 1 Sires Produce Stakes in Sydney.Just nine days after running third in the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes, recommended mating Hasna today romped home in the 1400 metre Group 1 Sires Produce Stakes at Randwick by an impressive four lengths. Handling the slower ground and extra furlong with ease, she left her Golden Slipper conqueror Polar Success struggling 16 lengths behind.12/04/2003Tante Rose wins Group 3 Fred Darling Stakes at Newbury. After a productive night down under, "second generation" Brain mating Tante Rose (see 2/11/02 below) , by compatible stallion Barathea out of My Branch, the latter also a recommended mating, ran out a convincing winner of this One Thousand Guineas trial. Another Wafic Said owned homebred filly Goodness Gracious ran a promising fourth in the same race, staying on resolutely at the finish having been last early.12/04/2003Australia's A$3 million Golden Slipper a triumph for planned matings.Congratulations to Alan Porter, the English pedigree consultant based in New York, on planning the mating that produced Polar Success, winner of the 2003 Golden Slipper, Australia's premier two-year-old race, a Group 1 event run over six furlongs at Sydney's Rosehill racecourse today. In third place, just a length behind was Hasna, a filly whose mating was planned with advice from ourselves. (see below 03/03/2003) Both matings are by non-shuttle stallions standing at “affordable” nomination fees. Also in the race were beaten favourite Secret Land (winner of the Listed Illawarra Classic) and the well supported filly Legally Bay (winner of the Group 3 Sweet Embrace Stakes), both identified by us as products of compatible matings and strongly recommended to clients for purchase as yearlings. One race earlier, Raspberry Ripple, the product of another top
rated mating planned with advice from Brain International Ltd, ran third
in the Group 1 Arrowfield Stud 3-yr-old Fillies Stakes over 2000 metres.
In second place in this race was New Zealand Oaks winner Bramble Rose,
a filly identified by us as the product of a compatible mating, and recommended
to clients for purchase as a yearling. By English Derby winner Quest For
Fame, Raspberry Ripple may not have appreciated the fast ground
as much as some, and will appreciate the extra two furlongs in the Oaks
in a fortnight's time. 22/03/2003Another Group 1 victory for Brain clients in Australia.Top rated recommended mating Fine Society, the only filly in the race, romped home in the Group 1 Canterbury Guineas over 1900 metres on Saturday. Fine Society is the product of a 106 rated mating between Marscay and the Precocious mare Early Song. Analysed by us for breeder Roy Thompson in May 1998, our report stated:- "Marscay combines in a classical, quality Marscay pedigree. Reinforcement of Hyperion, closely related Big Game, and Gold Bridge dominate this well structured pedigree, and a rating of 106 is indicative of a high degree of general compatibility. Marscay is very strongly recommended." Held up on the rails early, Fine Society produced a blistering run to lead the quality field 200 metres from home to win going away by 2¼ lengths. Amongst those behind were Victorian Derby winner and runner-up Helenus and Hydrometer. She is only the sixth filly to win the race since it was first run in 1935. On the same programme Legally Bay, recommended as a yearling (Snippets/Decidity
rated 162***) won the Group 3 Sweet Embrace Stakes, while another recommended
yearling Forum Floozie (Danasinga/Flying Floozie rated 119****)
won the Quality Mares Handicap. 3/03/2003Recommended matings achieve two Group 2 victories in Australasia. Two year old filly Hasna confirmed her quality in winning the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes at Rosehill, Sydney yesterday. By Australia bred stallion Snippets out of the USA mare They Say, Hasna is a top rated recommended mating. She remains one of the leading contenders for next month's Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes. Close 3rd in the race was another Snippets product, Legally Bay a colt recommended by us to clients as a yearling rating a high 162***. Meanwhile in New Zealand the compact 3 yr old filly Raspberry Ripple was a convincing 3½ length winner of the Group 2 Fayette Park Championship Stakes over 2100 metres. Another mating performed on our advice, Raspberry Ripple looks to have a promising future over the longer distances, having been raced as a sprinter earlier in her career. 2002 Dec/Sep >>>![]() InformationPatrick Brain can help you race and breed more successfully.
