2-yr-old Bourbonnais impresses in Goodwood's Champagne Stakes
He is a scopey horse and the sky is the limit for him was the reaction of Mark Johnston, trainer of Bourbonnais, after the two-year-old’s impressive second in Goodwood’s Group 3 Champagne Stakes. Bourbonnais had previously won his Maiden at York by five lengths.

Bred by Wafic Said’s Addison Racing, Bourbonnais was sold as a yearling for just £25,000. He is the product of a very strongly recommended, top rated (rating 106) mating by Singspiel out of the Woodman mare Rose Bourbon. Bourbonnais is entered in most of the top races for two-year-olds at the end of this season.

Promising Newbury win for 2-yr-old High Accolade
Congratulations to Lady Tennant, owner of smart two-year-old High Accolade, and to Deerfield Farm his breeder. High Accolade impressively won his two-year-old maiden at Newbury yesterday, having been placed third on his only previous run.

He is the product of a highly compatible recommended mating by Mark Of Esteem out of Generous Lady, and his breeding suggests there is plenty more to come as he steps up in distance.

2-yr-old son of Silver Wizard breaks Naples track record for second win from two starts
When owner breeder Dr Francesco Magliari contacted us from Rome in November '98 our mandate was to identify what we believed to be the most genetically compatible stallion for his mare Folkboat standing in England or Ireland, regardless of price or commerciality. He is the product of a highly compatible recommended mating by Mark Of Esteem out of Generous Lady, and his breeding suggests there is plenty more to come as he steps up in distance.

Top rated by some way was the Durham based Silver Hawk stallion Silver Wizard. Dr Magliari had a choice of a number of other well rated higher profile stallions but decided to put Folkboat to the £1,000 stallion.

The product of the mating was named Silver Boat, and the two-year-old has just made it two wins out of two starts, by five and four lengths respectively, both in Naples. His latest victory was run over 1400m in course record time for a two-year-old, giving 4kg to the rest of the field. Silver Boat will now be aimed at a Listed race in September.

Brain clients win three races in 2 days at Royal Ascot
Helm Bank still ran green, but battled on in a style that heralds a big future. - click for full size Congratulations to Terry Holdcroft and Bearstone Stud on a remarkable two days at Ascot for their mare My First Romance. On Tuesday her three-year-old colt by Zamindar, Zargus won the last race at Ascot, a 28 runner 5 furlong handicap, a mating we had rated at 134 when analysing the mare in 1998. (ratings are indexed from a possible high of 100 to a low of 500+)

On Wednesday his half sister Romantic Liaison won the Group 3 Queen Mary Stakes in ultra impressive style. She is the product of a highly recommended top rated mating with Primo Dominie, rating a highly compatible 114.

Two years earlier, her half-sister Romantic Myth had won the same race to a mating by Mind Games standing at Bearstone Stud, a mating that had already been performed at the time of our analysis, rating 157.

At the end of the day, the Chesham Stakes was widely touted to be a formality for the Irish contingent, with Tomahawk odds-on, but they were beaten by another highly compatible mating between Wild Again and Imperial Bailiwick (rating 133), performed by Gary and Lesley Middlebrook in USA, (please see Helm Bank below). Helm Bank still ran green, but battled on in a style that heralds a big future. Congratulations once again to Gary and Lesley.

Helm Bank wins on racecourse debut
Congratulations to Gary and Lesley Middlebrook on the win of home bred 2 yr old Helm Bank over 6 furlongs at Ayr yesterday. This was Helm Bank’s racecourse debut.

The product of a highly compatible recommended mating, Helm Bank is by the USA based Breeders Cup Classic winner Wild Again out of the Middlebrook’s speedy Imperial Bailiwick.

Helm Bank started slowly and ran very green before fighting on at the finish, beating fancied horses with considerable previous racecourse experience. A bright future looks in store.
