News 2001 Apr/Jan24/4/2001Second generation Brain mating romps home at second time of askingIt seems a lifetime ago that we recommended as highly compatible the mating between Distant Relative and Pay The Bank that produced the 1996 English 1000 Guineas fourth place getter My Branch, fourth to Bosra Sham under the same ownership of Wafic Said and his Addison Racing.Five years on, the first foal of My Branch, the product of our top rated mating to Polar Falcon, has won a moderate maiden at Folkestone in a canter, at her second start, first time out as a three-year-old, ridden by Michael Hills. His father, top trainer Barry Hills is a past master at bringing on fillies slowly - he did it with My Branch herself, and it is still very difficult to assess how good Future Flight is. What is clear however, is that she couldn't have won any easier, with the power of a highly compatible mating clearly showing through, in what often is the precarious production of a first foal. 24/3/2001Gallant Sunline loses nothing in defeat in Dubai. But International rating of 120 vindicated.Australasian champion race mare Sunline put up a game performance in the Group 2 Dubai Duty Free, being defeated less than a length into third place by two seasoned Group 2 performers, Jim And Tonic and Fairy King Prawn.Sunline did not have things all her own way as she is used to in Australia, being taken on early in the race and attempting to lead the rest of the way. She fought on gamely to the line and was only just beaten by two better horses on the day. She gave herself every chance, and proved beyond question that she is a top class Group 2 performer by International standards. Both of the horses that beat her have run consistently around their International ratings of 122 and 120 respectively for the past two years, and judging by the form of the others in the race today, a rating of 120 looks pretty right for Sunline. She looked a picture in the race today and was a credit to her connections. 15/3/2001Compatible matings continue to star in AustraliaFor the second year running the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap was won by a racehorse whose pedigree we highly rated in advice to clients. Last year's winner Miss Pennymoney, the product of a recommended mating, could only finish down the field this year to Toledo, given a 4 star rating by us as a yearling.Recommended mating Ascot Road followed up his impressive Sandown win last weekend, when he won the Roy Higgins Quality handicap in style at Flemington. To cap off a good day for matings with which we have been associated, compatible Ha Ha and Phoenix Park were both second in Sydney in Listed and Group 3 company respectively. 3/3/2001Two more Compatible Matings score in Australia2 yr old Oomph made an impressive debut at Sydney's Canterbury racecourse on 1st March. The mating between Flying Spur and Nobellotto had been identifield by us as a compatible commercial mating when we analysed the mare's pedigree for her owners in 1996, and the filly appears to have thrived under the handling of Sydney trainer Kerry Jordan.3 yr old Oamaru Rhythm, by the COMPATIBLE Geiger Counterout of Life Force, made it 3 wins from 5 starts in scoring in near course record time at Caulfield today. 24/2/2001Second Group 1 success for Mr Murphy in AustraliaMr Murphy made it two Group 1s in a week in dead heating for today’s Group 1 Futurity Stakes at Caulfield. In other action down under, Brain recommended mating, Phoenix Park won his first race since resuming, a 3yr old Open Handicap at Sydney's Rosehill racecourse. 19/2/2001Mr Murphy makes it another Group 1 for Brain clients in AustraliaWeekend racing in Australia was highlighted by the win of Mr Murphy in the Group 1 Australian Guineas. Bred by Ramsey Pastoral, we were particularly pleased to see this victory, as the pedigree has a long history of Brain analyses. Mr Murphy is by Danehill out of Marscay's Dream who is by Marscay out of Verdi.Verdi was analysed by us for Sir Tristan Antico of Baramul Stud in 1992, Brain's first year of operation in Australia. The mare had a Marscay weanling filly at the time and this mating was identified by us as highly compatible. Subsequently at the 1993 yearling sales we advised Stuart Ramsey of Ramsey Pastoral of what we perceived as the filly’s potential; Stuart bought the filly and named her Marscay's Dream. Marscay's Dream showed ability with one Sydney placing, but her career was cut short by injury and once again Brain was called into action to identify the best stallions for her. In a classic example, blending compatibility with commerciality, Stuart selected highly compatible Royal Academy as her first mating, resulting in the successful South African four-year-old Knight Watcher. Her second mating was to the even more compatible Danehill, producing the Group 1 winner Mr Murphy. The two yearlings sold for $340,000 and $300,000 respectively. Our congratulations go to Stuart Ramsey on his wonderful achievement in breeding a Group 1 winner. 19/2/2001Australian Successes ContinueThere was more success over the weekend for horses identified as compatible to clients either before conception as part of a broodmare analysis, or before purchase as yearlings.Assertive Lad returned to form in the Group 2 Royal Sovereign Stakes; I Realise also won impressively at Royal Randwick; Doodle Dandy won well at Eagle Farm, while Aloha Charm saluted at Canterbury. Earlier in the week Le Zagaletta won the Listed Hareeba Stakes at Mornington. Meanwhile, on the second day of the Mornington Cup carnival the feature race, the $75,000 Ansett Classic was won by Kabila, who took his record to 10 wins and over $189,000 from 40 starts. Kabila’s dam Regency Fair was recommended for purchase by us in one of the first "Assessment Of Broodmare Potential" we performed in Australia. At the time Kabila, who was identified as a compatible mating, had won just one provincial race and the mare had had just two small winners. She was purchased by clients for just $3,000 and is now a very commercial mare as the dam of four winners. 16/2/2001Sunline False AlarmThe advice that Sunline is to compete in Dubai on 24th March was evidently premature. We await firm plans with bated breath!3/2/2001More Group Winners Down UnderResults from Australia continue to advertise the quality generated by COMPATIBLE MATINGS.The Group 2 Alistair Clark Stakes at Victoria’s Moonee Valley was won by Mr Murphy, a colt bred by a Brain client. Mr Murphy is by the compatible Danehill out of Marscay's Dream. Also at Moonee Valley, compatibly mated Catango won a strong fillies race, bred by another Brain client, while Rulable (see 20/1/01) made it three wins in a row carrying 58 kg in a Fillies and Mares Quality Handicap. 28/1/20015 more winners in AustraliaRecommended mating Crop was Group 3 placed at Caulfield at only his third career start. Other winners recommended as yearlings include: - Adelaide winner Shining Path; Perth winner Opening Twist; Sandown winner Marlborough; Rosehill winner Kingsgate, and Doomben winner Miss Jakeo.20/1/2001Australian Winners ContinueBoth Rulable and Dutch Harry won again, while recommended matings 2yo La Lagune (Listed) and Stand By Me(Group 3) won consecutive black type at Victoria Park.13/1/2001Magic Millions triumph for Compatible MatingsWe had previously mentioned that eight of the sixteen Magic Millions 2yo runners had previously been analysed for clients either as part of a broodmare analysis, or as potential yearling purchases, and were identified as having a high degree of compatibility. It serves to highlight once again the advantages of racing compatibly mated horses, since the eight included the first six across the line in the Magic Millions race itself! It should also be noted that of the many Magic Millions yearlings analysed that did not rate well on our system when we analysed them a year ago, not one made the final race field. To round off an extra successful day for horses we identified as compatibly mated either before conception as part of a broodmare analysis, or before purchase as yearlings, Listed Gold Coast Stakes winner Play Station scored his second Black Type win in a week. Others included Dutch Harry, Rings Of Gold, Rulable and 2yo Latty. <<< 2001 Aug/May![]() InformationPatrick Brain can help you race and breed more successfully.
